My Mission Statement

I aim to build trust with those who are present by guarding the reputations of those who are not.
I aim to treat everyone according to the same set of principles with an unwavering eye to human dignity (Note: This doesn't mean I treat everyone the same, I consider my own capacity as well as the potential for mutual benefit and ROI).
I refresh my growth mindset through inspirational reading or by watching this.
I recommit to the assertion that the only person I can change is myself. This is tied to the concept of radical acceptance and the understanding that "All progress begins with honesty" (Dan Sullivan).
I practice listening to understand vs listening to respond.
When I am struggling with anxiety or depression, I double down on systems and habits. I read my Mission Statement and Mantra. I tell myself to override my mind and 'lead with my body' toward healthy behaviours like daily exercise. The chart (attached below) becomes my bare minimum for keeping our little home-train chugging. I invest in my friends and family, which can feel humbling when I feel like I have little of value to offer. I remind myself that this feeling will pass, and perhaps, by remembering these strategies the time between dips will be a little longer and the valleys a little less deep.
I find healthcare professionals I trust and respect. I lean into their strengths while understanding the unique limits on what I can expect out of my interactions with them.
I carefully consider and learn how to make commitments I can keep (to myself and to others), amidst a demanding life, health issues, and uncertain times. I work hard to keep the commitments I make and make meaningful amends when I can't come through. I see the commitments I make to myself as the building blocks of integrity.
I systemize planning and dreaming by planning my week on Sundays and engaging in yearly and quarterly visioning. Between Christmas and New Years I write down at least 8 MRM (Meaningful-Realistic-Measurable) goals for the year. At the beginning of each quarter, I choose (or adapt) 1-3 goals from my list to tackle.
I remind myself to have a sense of humour. Life is funny and remembering that we are all on a spinning ball of dirt in the middle of an infinite universe somehow makes human connection feel even more miraculous and problems seem far less significant 🍋
If you would like help to create a Family or Personal Mission Statement, as well as clarify and articulate your goals, values and vision I would be honoured to help.
